When Tommy's sister Emma (Abbie Cornish) dies of a drug overdose after a night of clubbing with Alysse, he returns to Melbourne and breaks up with her when she admits her part in Emma's death. As Alysse seeks solace in drugs and in the arms of a manipulative nightclub owner, Tommy undertakes an odyssey of self-discovery and tragedy in Melbourne's dance music scene. Fate brings them together again when Tommy reworks their opera, but further tragedy is just around the corner.

Quotes from Abbie Cornish

• "I didn't really ever think of Emma as a dead person, rather as an alive person. Her death wasn't the issue for me - if something like that was going to happen, where you were going to die in 24 hrs, you wouldn't know so I played her happy. 'Life's great, I might be pregnant, can't get in contact with my brother but fuck it it's my birthday and I'm going to go out and have a really good night'. I wanted to really inject some life into her and make her a happy girl, despite all her turmoils and troubles."

Quotes from the Film

• Trig: "Your gonna be hot girl. Hot like wasabi!"

Quotes from Others

• "I think she is one of the most intuitive young actors I've ever worked with. And I've worked with a lot of young actors over my years of theatre and training actors. She's very instinctive. There's no ego about her and she loves the craft of acting. She's one of these actors that feels something so deeply and intuitively that she almost morphs herself into the character."
- Paul Currie (One Perfect Day director)

From Critics

• "One Perfect Day blends muddled melodrama and stylish hardcore hedonism."
- Variety

Staff Comments

One Perfect Day is not a perfect film by any means. In fact, I found it both dull and overtly dramatic at parts. I did, however, enjoy the performances and the music. Abbie Cornish is great as Emma. Her on-screen time is brief but her character haunts the film throughout, despite her early departure. Abbie portrays Emma as a girl with problems but she is not a victim or a black-and-white character. Instead, Emma is a young girl much like any other out there, just with bad luck. " - Riikka
